Ayurvedic Body Massage Workshop: A Journey of Healing and Hands-On Learning

At the Minnesota Institute of Ayurveda, learning Ayurveda goes far beyond theory — it’s a journey into authentic, practical healing. Our recently conducted Ayurvedic Body Massage Workshop was yet another milestone in this journey, offering participants an opportunity to experience the profound art and science of Ayurvedic touch therapy.

The workshop was led by Dr. Ghanashyam Marda, a globally recognized Ayurvedic expert who has conducted workshops and lectures in several countries, and Dr. Asavari Manvikar, a renowned Ayurvedic practitioner and educator. Together, they created a deeply immersive learning space where participants not only learned techniques but truly felt the essence of Ayurvedic healing.

What the Participants Experienced

The two-day intensive workshop was a perfect blend of wisdom and practice. Participants gained hands-on experience preparing traditional Ayurvedic massage oils and understanding the roles of herbs, carrier oils, and their combinations for different doshas.

They also practiced Ayurvedic massage techniques, including Abhyanga (traditional full-body massage) and Marma Massage, which focuses on vital energy points in the body. Through these practical sessions, students learned how to incorporate abhyanga into their daily and seasonal routines, based on their prakruti (body type). The students also explored how to restore balance, improve circulation, and promote physical and emotional well-being.

Diverse Group, Unified Purpose

The participants came from diverse professional backgrounds — healers, dieticians, wellness practitioners, and individuals passionate about holistic healing. Despite their varied experiences, they all shared a common goal: to explore Ayurveda as a tool to heal themselves and others.

The classroom was filled with curiosity, compassion, and connection — as each participant discovered how Ayurvedic massage is not just a technique, but a form of communication between the healer and the body.

Certification and New Beginnings

At the end of the workshop, each participant received a Certificate of Completion, symbolizing their successful initiation into Ayurvedic bodywork. The closing ceremony was filled with smiles, gratitude, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Many participants expressed how the workshop was a transformative experience, deepening their understanding of Ayurveda and inspiring them to integrate Ayurvedic massage into their healing or wellness practices.

Continuing the Mission

Workshops like these reflect the mission of the Minnesota Institute of Ayurveda — to preserve authenticity while making Ayurveda accessible and practical for all. As Ayurveda continues to gain global recognition, our goal remains to guide learners through genuine experiences that blend traditional wisdom with modern understanding.
