Ayurvedic Health Counselor Program Overview

This is a remarkable moment to embrace time-honored traditions. Often referred to as "the science of practical wisdom," Ayurveda has been practiced for millennia. It is a timeless, holistic way of living that empowers individuals to achieve greater well-being and lead more meaningful, transformative lives.

Our 10-month, part-time hybrid program follows AAC & NAMA guidelines, blending in-class theory, hands-on training, virtual case discussions, and an internship. This course empowers students to integrate Ayurvedic wisdom for self-healing and guiding others through diet and lifestyle consultations.

No former knowledge of Ayurveda is required to join this program – we begin with the fundamental concepts of Ayurveda.

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required to join this program.

  • Anatomy and Physiology are required to complete the AHC program, though it’s not required to join. By the end of the program, you can complete 4 college-level credits in anatomy and physiology.

Applicants are required to have a high school diploma or the equivalent. Additional higher education is recommended. A passing grade transcript for six credits of post-secondary level Anatomy and Physiology is required. Anatomy and physiology can be taken simultaneously with this course and can be done completely online!

How can I fulfill the Anatomy and Physiology requirements?

  • We recommend Anatomy & Physiology programs online through https://www.kvinstitute.org/anatomy-physiology

  • Students are not required to take the specific courses at the above institute.

  • Students may complete any Anatomy & Physiology program that meets the above requirements.

  • Anatomy and Physiology may be completed as a prerequisite (before enrollment with us) or as a corequisite. A corequisite means you simultaneously take these course(s) as part of your program with us. Corequisite work must be completed before your course completion.

  • Proof of course completion is required for graduation from our training program in the form of a transcript or certificate of completion.

Professional Opportunities

Scope of Practice

The scope of practice for graduates of our level I Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) certification program is determined by the standards set by the National Ayurvedic Medical Association.

Upon graduation, Ayurvedic Health Counselors can:

  • Identify and analyze a client’s unique mind-body constitution.

  • Identify and analyze a client’s current dosha state and imbalances.

  • Independently conduct Ayurvedic wellness consultations.

  • Recommend dietary changes to balance doshas.

  • Recommend lifestyle modifications to improve health.

  • Adjustments to daily and seasonal routines could be recommended to prevent health issues

  • Recommend simple bodywork, massages, pranayama, and meditation to improve mental health and various emotional disturbances.

  • Offer cooking classes to improve health and wellness.

Ayurvedic Health Counselors cannot:

  • Diagnose diseases

  • Treat diseases.

  • Recommend treatments or herbal medicines.

  • Perform Panchakarma Treatments

AWC is designed as a Hybrid program providing optimal flexibility and effectiveness to our students with options for on-campus, virtual, and off-campus on-line classroom sessions.
